Underage Drinking - Positive Action

Good evening,

Following on from our previous post about underage drinking, our main priority is to ensure that these children are safe and not at risk of being exploited in any way!
Safeguarding the young people of our community is paramount.

We would like to confirm that we have safeguarded two young people and identified an adult who has been purchasing alcohol for underage children.

Relevant actions will be taken as this is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated!

We will continue to work closely with our local businesses to ensure that they are aware and do not fall subject to licensing breaches.

It is against the law:
- To buy, or attempt to buy, alcohol if you're under 18.
- For an adult to buy, or attempt to buy, alcohol for someone under 18.
- To sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 18.

Buying under 18s alcohol
- Police have the power to charge those over 18 who knowingly buy alcohol for anyone under the legal drinking age (buying by proxy). It is important that older friends and family know that they could be charged for supplying alcohol irresponsibly.

We will also be working closely with our local licensing teams to ask for their support in combatting these concerns.
