Identity Theft

Have you received a letter or invoice for a service that you don’t recognise? This can be the first sign of identity fraud.

The Home Office have created an ‘Identity theft victim’s checklist’ to outline the steps to take to repair your identity and prevent it happening again. These steps include:

  • Contact your bank(s) and ask them to withhold pending transactions.
  • Change your passwords and pins, including those for email addresses and social media accounts.
  • Use a credit referencing agency to find out if any accounts have been opened without your consent.
  • Contact any companies/ accounts that have been affected (e.g. credit card companies).
  • Report the fraud to Action Fraud:  www.actionfraud.police.uk
  • Contact Victim Support or Citizens Advice if you need further support, including emotional support.
  • For further advice from this Checklist please click here.

Garage Security Advice from Secured by Design

Garages are targeted by burglars for several reasons:

  • More valuable items are stored in the garage aside from just cars, such as cycles, e-bikes, motorbikes, and power tools.
  • Breaking into homes has become more difficult with the continued improvement in the security of doors and windows.
  • The older single skin metal ‘up and over door’ type with a single locking point offer poor security.
  • To improve the security of your garage you can:

  • Consider connecting the garage to your house alarm system if you have one.
  • Consider replacing the door with an accredited SBD product which will have achieved a Police Preferred Specification.
  • Contact a Locksmith registered with the Master Locksmiths Association for expert advice on the best type of garage door security for your property.
  •

Let’s Talk Survey: one year anniversary

On 4th March 2025 Hampshire and IOW Constabulary marked the first year anniversary of their Let’s Talk Survey. Since the survey was launched over 30,000 surveys have been completed where members of the public have let us know what the issues are that affect them most in the areas in which they live.

This information has allowed us to work with partner agencies to address the policing issues raised and make our communities safer and stronger by targeting our activity and problem solving more effectively.

We continue to encourage residents to help make a difference in their communities and help shape aspects of neighbourhood policing in their areas by completing the online survey here: https://orlo.uk/bJ0NP

    March edition of Rural Times

The latest edition of the Hampshire and IOW Constabulary Rural Times is available on our website here. The magazine highlights police team efforts from across the county to proactively patrol and target hotspot areas for rural crime.

There is also information on topics such as livestock worrying, the Humane Animal Dispatch scheme, the work of the Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC), and the recent Hampshire County Council fly-tipping survey.

Hampshire & IOW Constabulary Road Safety Course

The free pilot session will be held on MS Teams on Thursday 20th March, 10am-11am. This will have a maximum of 30 attendees on a first come first served basis. If you are interested in attending the pilot please register your interest by emailing dat@hampshire.police.uk

Could the investment opportunity be fake?

Take Five are reminding the public to be mindful of clear investment red flags:

  • Being contacted out of the blue and offered too-good-to-be-true returns
  • Being rushed to make a decision with an unwillingness to talk through the risks
  • Celebrity-endorsed ads on your social media feeds.
  • Only make informed investment decisions and check the Financial Conduct Authority’s register – don't part with your personal or financial information if you haven’t thoroughly researched the company.
