We've had a mix of weather this month but it was so nice to patrol the area in the sun for a change. It really brightens everything up including the mood of residents, probably in anticipation of the summer to come (hopefully)! What was a disappointment was the rise in Nitrous-oxide use and fly-tipping I observed. A demonstration of selfishness and a total lack of respect. Nitrous oxide is now a class C drug, making possession and sale for recreational purposes a criminal offence. Those caught with nitrous oxide for unlawful use face a caution, community service or an unlimited fine. Repeat offenders could serve up to two years in prison. It is an offence if a person drives or attempts to drive a motor vehicle on a road or other public place whilst unfit through drink or drugs. Similarly, it is an offence if a person is in charge of a motor vehicle when under the influence of drink or drugs. If this behaviour is observed, you should contact the police on 999 if happening or report online or dial 101. In these instances, a number plate would be very useful in the response and/or investigation to follow. Fly-tipping is the illegal deposit of waste on land, and can be domestic, commercial or trade waste. Fly tipping is a serious offence and can lead to an unlimited fine at court. Should this be witnessed happening then report using 999 quoting registration of vehicle for a police response. If found after the event then this can be reported to the Blaby District council online:-http://www.blaby.gov.uk/envi.../reporting/report-flytipping/ or 0116 275 0555. PC Jon has been patrolling the Watergate Lane area as a result of some recent fly tipping and a motorbike that has come to our attention in the area recently. He's also been completing some house to house and CCTV enquiries. Reports of an ATM (cash machine) having been tampered with on Ayston Road, Braunstone Town bought our response colleagues PC Brandon and PC Alex to the area along with ourselves from the local team. Information was received that the suspects were enroute back to the ATM to collect the cash which would of been stolen. The Males arrived and unfortunately for them they were surprised to be greeted by us and their very own welcoming committee, the males were promptly detained after officers jumped out and placed them into handcuffs. Assistance then arrived from the mighty D shift and C Shift, PC Layla, PC Luke, PC Jason & PC Wiki. Both males were detained and taken to Custody. A skimming device was located amongst other items! Their van was around the corner, this was seized for our scenes of crime officers to look at. At custody one male was given ‘no further action’ to ‘theft’ and ‘possess article to commit fraud’ but was however returned to HMP for immigration offences where he is to serve the rest of his sentence (approx. 1yr 4 months) prior to being deported. The second male was charged with both ‘theft’ and ‘possess article to commit fraud’ and remanded in custody awaiting Court. Great result. PCSO Duane visited some of the young ones at Millfield Academy as part of their 'people who help us' theme. They all enjoyed seeing and having a go in the police car and speaking with PCSO Duane. Thank you for inviting us.
This month has been a busy one in relation to Anti-Social behaviour. We've had a meeting with East Midlands Housing in relation to safeguarding and vulnerability concerns linked with ASB on Shakespeare Close. We are now looking into a Partial Closure Order for an address. This would mean that those causing the issues could be arrested for attending the location. A CPW (Community Protection Warning) was issued on Rosamund Avenue. We are working with Blaby District Council's ASB team and we will continue to monitor the situation and upgrade the warning to a Notice if required whereby significant fines may result if the behaviour continues. We are also looking into finding support for the perpetrators to try and improve the chances of the problem being resolved. We also visited an address on Braunstone Close and gave the occupants words of advice in relation to their behaviour in the area. The beat team also attended the coffee morning at the Braunstone Town Library for one of our beat surgery's. Always a warm welcome there at 1000hrs Wednesday mornings if you want to get a cuppa and have a chat with other local residents. Patrols of the local parks took place throughout the month as standard, we located some kids where they shouldn't be on Shakespeare Park. Very polite nice bunch, but we moved them on and they had fun elsewhere. |
