Crimes and priorities

In Long Eaton, we set three priorities for us to focus on every few months. Those priorities are:

1. Retail crime – targeting repeat offenders.
2. Auto crime - vehicle crime reduction.
3. Road safety – targeting e-scooter riders.

1. Officers conduct regular patrols in the town centre and surrounding areas and regular engagements will be conducted with retail premises within the Long Eaton area to provide reassurance and offer crime prevention advice. Review incident reports using police data to identify any individuals involved and take robust action to prevent deterioration of crimes and incidents being reported. Recently, numerous prolific shoplifters have been arrested and charged following significant shop thefts around the Long Eaton town centre.

2. SNT officers will attend and assist in the investigation of all reports of vehicle crimes. Increased high visibility and plain clothes patrols to be conducted in hot-spot areas to detect and disrupt criminal activity. Deliver crime prevention advice, including ensuring vehicles are locked and high value items are removed from vehicles. SNT officers will often do community engagements in local cafes and shops in order to offer out crime prevention advice and equipment such as window locks, alarms, bike marking equipment etc. This allows us to share our resources to the wider community and listen to how people feel about crime rates in their area.

3. Educate members of the public around the law of e-scooters. High visibility patrols to be conducted to identify and take positive action against riders of e-scooters. This will include seizing the e-scooter using powers under Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988. E-scooters will be seized, and the rider reported for the offences accordingly. Once seized, there is no option of the rider / owner claiming the e-scooter back. PCSO's from Long Eaton police station have seized 11 e-scooters around the area since the 1st of February 2025.

We are proud to work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on preventing and reducing crime, protecting the vulnerable and providing reassurance across Derbyshire.
