As we enter wildfire season, please remember ...

Over the weekend, crews from Rawtenstall and Bacup Fire Station responded to a wildfire in our area, highlighting the importance of staying vigilant during wildfire season.

As we enjoy the beautiful outdoors across Lancashire—whether it’s our moors, sand dunes, forests, or wide-open spaces - we urge everyone to take extra care to help prevent further fires. Wildfires can spread quickly, and it's essential that we all do our part in keeping our landscapes safe.

 

Here are a few key tips to help prevent wildfires:

  • Avoid smoking on the moors: If you must smoke, always make sure to properly extinguish and dispose of your cigarette butts. Never throw them out of your car window.
  • No disposable BBQs on the moors: Instead of bringing a BBQ, pack a picnic and enjoy the natural beauty responsibly.

  • Take your rubbish home: Glass bottles, when exposed to sunlight, can start fires. Always make sure to clean up after yourself and take your rubbish with you.

     

    • The sun is shining across Lancashire today, and with warmer weather comes an increased risk of fires. If you happen to spot a wildfire while you're out and about, please don’t hesitate to call us on 999—and remember, don’t assume someone else has already reported it!

     

    When you call, please provide as much information as possible to the call handler, including:

  • A detailed description of the location
  • An estimate of the size of the fire
  • The terrain of the area
  • Any other relevant information that could assist our teams

    • By following these simple tips, we can look after Lancashire together.
