Sentimental engraved World War I medals were stolen during a burglary in Harpenden and detectives are appealing for information and witnesses. An Allied Victory medal engraved ‘William Murphy’ and an Irish Police 1903 medal engraved with ‘John Murphy’ were stolen from a property in Oakfield Road between 7pm and 11pm on Thursday 20 March. “These are understandably irreplaceable heirlooms with huge sentimental value,” said Detective Constable Sally Milligan from the Local Crime Unit. “We would like to hear from anyone who may have been offered these medals for sale or anyone who has any doorbell footage or any information about the burglary.” She added: “We would love to reunite the medals to their rightful owner.” Jewellery, including diamond rings and a watch, were also stolen during the burglary. Anyone with any information is asked to report online at www.herts.police.uk/report quoting reference 41/26692/25.
