Theft of Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention

Motor vehicle theft is a serious concern that can happen to anyone. To help you keep your vehicle safe, here are some essential tips for preventing theft:

  • Always Lock Your Vehicle: Even if you're just stepping away for a moment, make sure to lock all doors and close all windows.

  • Park in Well-Lit Areas: Choose parking spots that are well-lit and visible. If possible, park in areas with security cameras or attendants.

  • Remove Valuables: Don't leave valuables in plain sight. Take them with you or store them out of sight in the trunk or glove compartment.

  • Use Anti-Theft Devices: Consider installing steering wheel locks, car alarms, or GPS tracking systems to deter thieves.

  • Keep Your Keys Safe: Never leave your keys in the ignition or inside the vehicle. Consider using a Faraday bag for your key fob. These bags block the signal from your key fob, making it harder for thieves to use relay attacks to steal your car. Simply place your key fob in the Faraday bag when it's not in use to enhance your vehicle's security. Be mindful of where you store your spare keys.

  • Be Cautious with Remote Starters: If you use a remote starter, ensure your vehicle is locked and in a secure location while it's running.

  • Stay Informed: Be aware of common theft tactics and stay updated on local crime trends. Knowledge is a powerful tool in preventing theft.
