Please find below March's newsletter showcasing what the local beat team are prioritising in your area.

Introduction

Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Spinney Hill and St Matthews Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaid - What matters to you

PARKING:

We have been informed through ward meetings and community feedback that the parking situation on the St Peters Estate is a significant cause of upset and frustration. This includes people parking too close to junctions, on pavements and on zigzags. This leads to bin collections not taking place due to lorries not being able to turn into some streets and emergency vehicles struggling to get around. On occasions, children, disabled and parents with push chairs have to go onto the road.

VIOLENT CRIME:

There have unfortunately been multiple incidents over the past 4 months of serious violent crime on the St Matthews and St Peters Estate. These have led to thorough investigations by the beat team aided by our officers in CID. Your beat team have charged multiple people with weapons related offences over this period also and worked tirelessly to reduce violent crime by ensuring we're covering key areas in our patrol plan and ensuring by educating the community where possible through use of local radio station, online content and attendance at youth clubs and schools.

ASB:

Police have identified through surveys that the St Matthews Estate is an area where we could improve our response to reports of anti-social behaviour.

#WeDid - What we are doing

PARKING:

We intend on completing partnership work with the local fire service and traffic wardens to increase patrols and ensure we educate the community on the consequences of their parking. These patrols will include fixed penalty notices for obstruction and traffic wardens giving tickets where their powers allow.

VIOLENT CRIME:

We will continue to take robust action against anyone remotely involved in serious violent crime. We have a no tolerance approach to such behaviour and whilst we have seen a decrease in serious violence we will be continuing our engagements with the public, in schools and youth clubs. We are also working with other agencies to ensure there are opportunities for young people to become involved in useful projects where they will obtain skills to set them up for a positive future.

ASB:

Your beat team will be conducting door to door surveys and consultations with the St Matthews estate over the next 90 days, with the intention of getting honest feedback from the community about how they feel the Police tackle anti-social behaviour on the estate.
