Basingstoke officers secure partial closure order as they clamp down on ASB and drug-related activity

Officers from Basingstoke’s Priority Crime Team have secured a partial closure order as they continue to clamp down on anti-social behaviour and drug-related activity.

On Tuesday 1 April, Basingstoke Magistrates Court was presented with evidence of criminal behaviour at the property on Redwood Avenue. The court heard the behaviour caused a “serious nuisance to members of the public”.

The partial closure order was granted and it now means that no-one other than those authorised on the court order will be allowed to enter or remain at the addresses for the next three months.

If they do, they will be committing a criminal offence and can be arrested.

The order was obtained following partnership work with our officers, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and the relevant housing association.

It comes after three people were arrested following a warrant at the address on 31 March. Officers seized suspected Class A drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A 45-year-old woman, a 37-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, all from Basingstoke, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.

The woman was released under investigation, pending further enquiries. The men have been bailed, pending further enquiries.

Basingstoke’s Priority Crime Team Inspector, Tracey Purcell, said: “We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and drug-related activity – and the associated harm that is often associated with these offences – within our local communities.

“This address has been a blight on the local community and I’m pleased to say that through the dedicated work of local officers we have been able to secure this partial closure order.

“We are grateful for the local community who have provided information to us about issues linked to drugs supply and anti-social behaviour.

“We will continue to target individuals, and their associated addresses, who remain insistent on causing harm and misery in our communities, through their involvement with drugs.

“We hope this reassures the public that we simply won’t tolerate this type of behaviour and offending, and will work in partnership to explore every avenue to put a stop to it.

“Please keep reporting information to us about ASB and drugs supply by either calling 101, or visiting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, as every piece of information we receive from you helps us develop the bigger picture and take action.”
