Police: Priority Update - Road Safety

Good Afternoon Rutland North,

PC Pikachu and PC Elmo made a surprise appearance as Rutland Police officers today!... ๐Ÿ˜†

I teamed up with PC Dan Daley from the Melton Rural North Dedicated Neighbourhood Team, whose beat area borders my Rural North beat in Rutland ๐Ÿค

We were together attending multiple emergency incidents supporting colleagues on response and also progressing our ongoing case load of investigations ๐Ÿ’ช

Some of the incidents we attended today that we can tell you about are ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿšจ The pictured image -  taken once the 'dust had settled' and everything was confirmed to be okay, by the rider of a motorcycle and his friend who was earlier involved in what was thankfully a minor Road Traffic Collision ๐Ÿ๏ธ  After being assessed by East Midlands Ambulance Service and very fortunately having no serious injury - The riders were very keen for us try on their motorcycle helmet covers and we were all too happy to oblige, (positive community engagement is a big part of what a Police Beat Officer does!) ๐Ÿš”

๐Ÿšจ Assisted East Midlands Ambulance Service with a mental health related concern for welfare medical episode ๐Ÿš‘

๐Ÿšจ Removal of dangerous debris in the road on the A1 ๐Ÿš“

๐Ÿ“ต In-between these incidents, I have issued a Traffic Offence Report to a driver for using their mobile phone whilst behind the wheel ๐Ÿšซ

Itโ€™s really disappointing to see that people still think that this is acceptable, especially when the vehicle had all the technology available to connect with a handsfree car play system ๐Ÿ˜ž

Using your mobile phone whilst driving carries a penalty of 6 points and a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to ยฃ1,000, (ยฃ2,500 if youโ€™re driving a bus or lorry). This means that new drivers who have passed their text within the past 2 years will automatically lose their driverโ€™s licence โ€ผ๏ธ

Even more serious than that though, using your mobile phone whilst driving is 1 of the โ€˜Fatal 4โ€™ factors identified in serious Road Traffic Collisions, these are the four biggest dangers whilst driving:

๐ŸŽ๏ธ Speeding
๐Ÿšซ Drink/Drug driving
โ€ผ๏ธ Not wearing a seatbelt
๐Ÿ“ต Using a mobile phone

Road Safety is one of the community priorities that you have told us that you want us to focus our time efforts on in the โ€˜Your Views' Priority Survey, and action like todays is important in making our roads a safer place for everyone ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Thank you for reading, whatever you are up to - have a great weekend Rutland, stay safe and take care! โ˜€๏ธ

PC 1049 Jake Spruce ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ
(... Or should I say PC Pikachu ... ๐Ÿญ )
