Joint Operation at Stannington Station

On Monday 31st March, officers from British Transport Police and Morpeth Neighbourhood Team, Northumbria Police came together for a joint operation in Stannington Station following repeated concerns from the local community around speeding vehicles and misuse of the level crossing.

The operation focused on educating drivers and raising awareness. Officers engaged with numerous motorists throughout the morning, handing out informative leaflets about the dangers and legal responsibilities when using level crossings. These materials aim to help drivers understand the risks not only to themselves but also to the railway and the wider public.

In addition to engagement, a Speed Watch was also conducted in the area as a result of concerns raised by residents. Those stopped were reminded of the importance of safe and considerate driving - especially in areas close to railway infrastructure.

The operation was a success, demonstrating the positive impact of partnership working between the two forces and the value of listening to community feedback. Safety in and around the local area and railway remains a top priority, and we will continue to work together to tackle dangerous behaviours and promote long-term safety improvements.

Thank you to the community of Stannington for your continued support and cooperation."
