Officers issue four fixed penalty notices following test purchase operation in Aldershot

Officers issued fixed penalty notices to four shops following a test purchase operation in Aldershot last week.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Licensing Team, along with a Licensing Officer from Rushmoor Borough Council, visited 13 shops on Thursday 3 April.

The purpose of the operation was to test age verification policies.

Staff at nine of the venues passed the test by requesting ID and refusing the sale of alcohol to our 17-year-old volunteer.

Staff at four venues failed the test. They were issued a £90 fixed penalty notice and given appropriate advice.

Licensing Officer, PC Phil Dennett, said: “We carried out this operation to make sure shops had the right processes to stop alcohol being served to underage people.

“We’re pleased that most of the venues passed the spot checks, although it’s disappointing to see that staff at four shops failed.

“We will look to visit those stores again in the coming months.”
