Caribbean food banishing Hate Crime in Scarborough!

We had a great visit to the Gallows Close Centre in Scarborough yesterday. The North Yorkshire Police Hate Crime team were given a Caribbean cooking lesson by Maya from Big Maya's Jerk. Around 20 people attended from various backgrounds and cultures, we counted 9 different ethnicities in one room!

We cooked an amazing curry then all had a chat about Hate Crime and how to keep safe. Some of the most interesting conversation came from the local children, who bravely shared their experiences of hate crime. It goes to show that we can all learn from each other, no matter what age we are!

Maya's aim is to bring people together with food. Her motto of the day was ‘Don’t get mean, get curious'!
