🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ Tips for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety 🚦

Hi everyone,

As the days get longer and the weather brightens up, we’re seeing more people out walking, cycling, and enjoying the outdoors which is brilliant! But with more foot and cycle traffic, it’s important we all stay alert and look out for one another.

👣 Pedestrian Safety Reminders:

  • Always use crossings where available, zebra, pelican or puffin crossings
  • Make eye contact with drivers before stepping out
  • Stay off your phone when crossing roads, distraction can be dangerous
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing if you're out early morning or after dark
  • Teach young children the basics of road safety. Stop, Look, and Listen!
  • 🚲 Cyclist Safety Tips:

  • Always wear a helmet, it’s not just a precaution, it’s a lifesaver
  • Make sure your lights are working (front and back), required by law at night
  • Wear high-visibility clothing, especially in low light or rainy conditions
  • Use hand signals clearly and early when turning or changing lanes
  • Ride in a straight line, not weaving in and out of traffic or parked cars
  • Obey all traffic signals and signs, you’re considered a road user too!
  • 🚗 Drivers—Let’s Not Forget You!

  • Expect more cyclists and pedestrians especially near parks, schools, and residential streets
  • Always check mirrors and blind spots before turning or opening your door
  • Give cyclists plenty of space at least 1.5 metres when overtaking
  • Slow down near crossings and in shared spaces
