Good News - Cadet recruitment

Yesterday Superintendent James Black, Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton, local PCSOs and many others attended the second annual memorial service, held at the Fylde Memorial Arboretum. The service remembers police officers who lost their lives whilst on duty in the Blackpool and Fylde area since 1893.

In 2021, the Blackpool and Fylde Police Cadet Leaders initiated a program to educate cadets about Heritage Crime. This initiative soon took on a profound significance when reports emerged of vandalism and disturbances involving young people at the Fylde Arboretum. Our cadets resolved to take positive action.

With the invaluable support of Heritage UK, Young Voices Heard, and the Fylde Arboretum, the cadets successfully funded and constructed this memorial, which was officially inaugurated last March. This memorial is now the second police arboretum memorial in the country and the only one designed and funded by police cadets.

Speaking at the event, Chief Inspector Jennings-Wharton said: “I extend my deepest gratitude to the Police Cadets for their extraordinary efforts in creating this arboretum. Your dedication and commitment have resulted in a lasting tribute that will be cherished by our community for generations to come.”

The above is just one of the examples of opportunities that our cadets may get to take part in throughout their time with us.

With that in mind…

RECRUITMENT IS OPEN!!!

Are you aged 13 - 18 years old? Do you want to help, improve and support your community?

As a Police Cadet, you will be able to take part in community events for a minimum of 3 hours per week, visit different police departments such as the Dog Section, Firearms Unit, Mounted Branch, Roads Policing Unit and Scenes of Crime Unit and gain an insight into the basic rules and laws of policing!

There are no entry requirements, we just ask that you have a positive attitude with the desire to help other people. If you’ve previously been in trouble with the police don’t worry, you’re still welcome to join, pending further checks.

Please note, those areas that become oversubscribed will close on Monday 14th April 2025. Blackpool South unit is likely to be full before Blackpool North, due to existing numbers.

Blackpool & Fylde Police Cadets meet on Wednesdays 6-8pm at B&FC, Ashfield Road, Blackpool, FY2 0HB (North) and on Thursdays 6-8pm at the University Centre on Park Road, Blackpool, FY1 4ES (South).
