Last summer officers became aware of videos being uploaded and shared across social media showing a young child driving a high-powered BMW in Etwall whilst being filmed by their father. 

During the incident, the child, who was unaided in driving whilst father in the passenger seat, was seen to achieve speeds of 20-30mph whilst not wearing a seatbelt and at one point swerve towards a hedge. 

The incident was investigated by PC Alex Boniface and as a result, a male was interviewed for multiple offences. Safeguarding was also put in place for the child.

Carl Morris, 36 years of Springfield Road, Etwall was charged and has now been convicted at South Derbyshire Magistrates Court of the following offences following a guilty plea:-
Permit vehicle to be used with no insurance
Permit vehicle to be used with no licence
Supervisor of vehicle using mobile phone whilst driving
Drive a vehicle with a child under 14 years failing to wear a seat belt.

Morris was issued with 8 points on his licence and fined almost £700
