Burglary in your area recently

In recent weeks there have been reports of a burglary in your area. We would like to request that you take some moments to review the below advice with a view to taking some simple and low-cost steps to protect your home and property.

  • Ensure that all windows and doors are locked when leaving the house. If you have an intruder alarm make use of it.
  • Ensure all keys, including car keys, are stored out of sight and away from the letterbox. If you have a keyless entry vehicle consider storing the fob in a Faraday pouch when not in use. Always ensure your car is locked when parked up.
  • Keep valuables like jewellery, phones and laptops out of sight of windows.
    • Take photographs of valuable jewellery against a plain  background, place a ruler next to the item in the photograph.  Store high value jewellery in a good quality safe compliant with insurance rating standards, or alternatively in a safety deposit box.
    • Register your valuables for free at www.immobilise.com.
    • Keep a record of electronic device serial numbers/IMEI numbers.
    • Forensically mark high value jewellery and other possessions.
  • In the evening, close curtains and consider leaving a light on when your home is unoccupied. Make use of timer switches or smart bulbs if you have them.
  • Consider installing home CCTV or a smart doorbell.
  • Keep ladders and tools stored securely. Don’t leave them outside where they could be used to break into your home.
  • Ensure wheelie bins are stored securely away from flat roofs or windows, where they could be used as a climbing aid to access your property.
