Good Afternoon from your local Coldhurst and Westwood Policing Team !

Over the last 2 months we’ve had over 50 Hoax 999 calls from the Coldhurst Ward alone, this is far higher than any other area in Oldham and for some reason the youths in the area seem to think it’s a game and funny to do this type of dangerous activity.

The reason its dangerous is that when our call handlers are trying to deal with these type of nuisance calls, we can’t deal with people who have real emergencies, thus putting people’s lives at risk.

Please pass this message on to children in the area, emphasizing that we the Police will be pushing to locate and prosecute persistent offenders and will be working with phone companies to pinpoint their location. 

We already know that a large percentage of hoax calls come from near the Denmark Way / Bamford Street, so we’d appreciate your help in this matter getting the message across.

Apart from these incidents the area is relatively quiet, so that’s a bit of good news.
