E-Scooter Seizure - Sandwich

Today whilst on mobile patrol in Sandwich, PC 14106 Eyre-Jackson and PC 31208 Porter came across an e-scooter being ridden along Moat Sole.

The rider was stopped, issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) and the e-scooter was seized.

I have had a number of reports of e-scooters and electric bikes being used in the area of New Street, the Butts and across the forecourt at the Guildhall. E-scooters and fully electric bikes are classed as motor vehicles and are required to be taxed and insured. It is not possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters and fully electric bikes, which means it is illegal to use them in public spaces, including public footpaths, cycle lanes and roads. If stopped by a police officer using these vehicles in such places they will be seized and as a result destroyed. You also risk a £300 fine and six penalty points on your licence for no insurance.
