Road Safety - Across South Yorkshire

This weekend, with the bank holiday upon us, there will be an increase in road users and we're urging everyone to do your part to help keep each other safe.

We have sadly seen 14 people lose their lives on the roads of South Yorkshire this year. It can happen to anyone.

We make no apologies that we will be out conducting proactive patrols, speed checks and stopping those we believe to be a risk to our communities, because we want everyone to return home to their families.

The majority of fatal collisions involve a driver over the limit of drink or drugs, using a mobile phone, speeding or not wearing their seatbelt.

If you’re out drinking alcohol, please make a plan to get home. Book a taxi or organise a lift. Do not drink and drive.

Using your mobile phone while driving slows your reaction time by 50 per cent. That text or phone call can wait.

Do not speed. A few miles per hour over the speed limit can be the difference between life and death.

Always wear your seatbelt, whether you are a driver or a passenger. For those with young children in the car, ensure they are in a correct car seat for their age.

If you are a parent and your child will be ‘playing out’ during the Easter holidays, please take the time to talk to them about road safety.
