End of 4 - Stoke and Wyken- Neighbourhood Updates

Wyken

We have seen an increase in call outs to fly tipping in action. Please let us know and give us details if you see it happening. Did you know you can use the website ‘Fix my street’ to send reports directly to the council or whichever authority is responsible for dealing with the problem. Once you have submitted your form, it is published online so that others can see what has already been reported. There is an interactive map that allows you to see the exact location of problems and gives you the chance to upload a photo.

Please use the link below to find out more and use the website.

Upper Stoke

Yet again, we are running into increased levels of Anti Social behaviour now that the weather is taking a turn for the better and schools are off. Youth loitering, causing problems for passers by,  dangerous use of offroad motorbikes that are unlicensed, public use of drugs such as nitrous oxide (balloons) a class C drug and vandalism. In response to these issues we have again put more resources in areas we know to be problems. Officers use pedal bikes to scan large grassy areas with greater ease and spend more time in the nooks and crannies of our neighbourhood. Ideally we are able to prevent this type of behaviour in the early stages so our engagement with youth at schools/colleges is prioritised by our neighbourhood team.

As mentioned by residents during the PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting, officers are currently engaging with residents and working with the council to address the problem of illegal fishing in the Stoke Floods area. We will be working with the necessary agencies to tackle this problem. Fish traps have been sighted aswell as individuals fishing solo.

This week we have also seen a rise in cases of children going missing. This is due to families spending more time outside in public /in the garden, it being the Easter break and windows/doors being left open at properties. Here are some tips for those with young ones, especially for those out and about in busy places as seen below:

  • Take an up-to-date photo of your child. Having a photo that shows what they are wearing on that day is useful to have an accurate description, or to help people spot them if they do get lost.
  • Dress your child in bright colours so they can be spotted more easily in a crowd.
  • Write your phone number on your child’s t-shirt or arm with a felt tip so you can be easily contacted if you do get separated.
  • If your child has a phone, make sure it is fully charged and your number is stored and is easy to find, or ensure they have your number of a piece of paper in their pocket/bag in case they lose their phone.
  • Let your child know what to do if they do get separated from you, such as pointing out where the security points are, how to look for police or stewards, or if there is a stand they can go to.
  • Arrange a meeting place so if you do get separated, you can head there.
  • Buddy up if you can, especially if you are in a large group. Ask an older child to hold a smaller child’s hand if there are a few of you.
  • Please always call 999 in an emergency.
