Rural Weekly Update

Hello again from the Rural Neighbourhood team!

We started out the week with a Speedwatch in Chadwick End where our volunteers managed to catch 14 vehicles speeding, with the highest being 45MPH in a 30!

We also managed to set up a Beat Surgery in Hockley Heath where the community can come along and seek advice from us or just pop by to say hello. We have regular surgeries in Balsall Common, Meriden and now Hockley Heath so why don’t you come and see us – all appointments will be advertised on our website!

Some of our team were at the St George’s Day parade in Knowle today, enjoying the company of many of the residents who came out to watch.

Burglaries:

Over this week we have seen a number of offences being committed with glass windows and/or doors being forced to gain entry. This is happening increasingly with businesses – barber shops and rural worksites.

What can you do to feel secure?

  • Get a locksmith to change the barrel in your doors to an Anti-snap lock
  • Invest in security lighting, alarms, cameras.
  • Report any suspicious behaviour
  • Join Neighbourhood Watch to look after your street.
  • Join Streetwatch and patrol your area.
  •

    Vehicle crime:

Over the past week we have had:

  • Vehicle theft
  • Items stolen from vehicles - including tools
  • Vans that are parked in car parks are being targeted for any tools left inside.

    What can you do?

  • Use a faraday bag/box- This blocks the signal used by the Jammer/transponder.
  • Attach a steering wheel lock/wheel lock - this is a great deterrent seen this week
  • Remove valuables left inside - including tools (sticker stating “no tools left inside” are available)
