Vehicle interference and thefts

North Yorkshire Police have received multiple reports in the areas of Bolton Percy, Sherburn in Elmet and Ryther, that occurred overnight on the 25/04 to 26/04.

The different reports include thefts from vehicles, thefts from a shed and gardens.

We have also had reports of unknown suspects trying the car door handles of vehicles around the Bolton Percy area.

If you have a vehicle parked overnight, please keep security in mind. You can make it much harder for offenders to target your vehicle by:

  • Removing any valuables from your vehicle
  • Make sure all doors are locked before you walk away from the vehicle
  • Adding internal security
  • Fitting a vehicle alarm and tracker
  • Fitting a dash cam
  • Parking in front of CCTV or a video doorbell where possible
  • Parking on a driveway with rear doors up against a solid object
  •

Please ensure any garages or sheds are secured with good locks and security measures are in place. We strongly advise fitting a shed/garage alarm which can be purchased for as little as £10 from DIY stores or online, they are battery operated and are very easy to fit. It's also a good idea to lock items together or to a secure fitting inside your building using a cable lock or chain.

Your local police team are aware and have the area on their patrol plan.

If you experience any issues in the area we would be grateful if you could please let us know. If the issue is still ongoing please contact us on tel: 999 emergency or 101 non emergency, if not ongoing you can report online using this link https://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/
