ASB/Fire update, Businesses United, Care Home visits, how to report incidents & Community updates

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the good weather. I've had a really good and productive few days, which has included patrolling a number of locations throughout the area and having plenty of conversations with residents along the way.

Please find at the end of this e-mail a list of locations that I have patrolled over the last few days

Welcome to everyone who has recently joined ‘Staffordshire Smart Alerts’ over the last few weeks. At the time of sending this e-mail, we have 1140 residents from Trentham & Hanford ‘signed up’, which is fantastic.  If you could please continue to spread the word about these e-mails to family, friends, neighbours, community groups and on social media etc, thank you.

Trentham & Hanford Businesses United

From the many conversations I have had with shops across the area, I know that shoplifting is something that impacts many of them.

Many years ago I did work in retail and I know what a frustrating and costly issue this is.

On 17/05/25 I visited a number of retailers across Trentham & Hanford, with the aim of helping to create a system where they can communicate with each other, to help prevent shopliftings from occurring. Moving forward, my hope is that this will make shoplifting much harder to carry out in our shops and it will be a great example of how working together will bring positive results.

I still have a few businesses to visit -If anyone would like more information on this, please let me know.

ASB/Fire incident Update

On 11/05/25 a child made several small fires on dry grass in Hanford Park. I will be speaking to the child and their family regarding this. Please could I ask that if you do have children, if you could please explain the dangers of starting fires in our parks and open spaces etc. Should you see anyone setting fires or attempting to - please call 999

On Friday 6th June 2025 14:30 - 15:30 myself and staff from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service will be attending the Trentham Community Library, Allerton Rd, ST4 8PQ to give advice to residents and visitors about keeping safe in their homes. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you all there.

How to report incidents

Incidents can be reported by calling 101 (in non-emergencies) 999 (in emergencies). Non emergency incidents can also be reported online by visiting Home | Staffordshire Police

This helps to ensure incidents are recorded and responded to promptly.

***Please note that I will not be able to respond to messages on Staffordshire Smart Alerts, to my e-mail or works mobile when off duty or on leave***.

Foodbank

Whilst on patrol I met staff from the Stoke-On-Trent Foodbank.

If you would like to donate food, they meet on the Man In Space Car Park on Saturdays, 10am - 11am. I know they get lots of donations from the public at this location, which is fantastic! Thank you to them and to everyone who donates.

Jr Cadets

On Thursday (15/05/25) I helped my colleague PCSO Sherratt with a JR Cadets lesson at St Johns CE (A) Primary School. The lesson included forensics, fingerprints and learning the phonetic alphabet.

Do you know the phonetic alphabet? (It was something I really wished I had learnt prior to joining the Police)… If not, here it is…

Care Home visits

On 17/05/25 I visited Trentham House Care Home and spoke with staff about the work the Neighbourhood Police Team are doing in the area. I spoke about the need to ensure that residents in our Care Homes know that they are very much apart of this community and we want them to have their say on what issues they would like the Neighbourhood Policing Team to be addressing.

In the very near future I will contacting all of our Care Homes to arrange visits, where I can have meetings with residents and say hello to everyone.

The Canal

Over the last few days I have completed patrols of the canal. Walking along in the sunshine I could not help but think how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep.

A resident has contacted myself raising concerns regarding the speed of a cyclist when they were walking along the canal. I often see cyclists and I know many ride at sensible speeds.

Please could I ask if you do cycle along the canal, please ride at a sensible speed, use a bike bell and reduce your speed to a slow pace when approaching pedestrians. Thank you.

I will be contacting the Canal & River Trust to ask if sign's can be put in place regarding this.

Police Street Surgeries

On 19/05/2025 there will be a Police Street Surgery 18:30 - 18:45 at Mountsorrel Cl

And lastly, I had to give a mention to the fantastic knitting designs that I often see on top of a Post Box on Pacific Road. This one, celebrating  the 80th anniversary of VE day. They are brilliant!!

Today (18/05/2025) I will be on duty until 22:00 this evening. If you see me on patrol, please stop me if you need anything.

Have a great day everyone,

Scott
