This week on Stoke and Wyken.

Dear Residents and Local Businesses, here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team, Stoke and Wyken.

This Week

Student safety and parking issues near schools around the morning and afternoon times remain one of our top priorities due to both the community and staff expressing concerns, and so we have been actively patrolling and working together with parking wardens to educate and give fines to those who are repeat offender of obstructions. These locations have included Wyken Croft primary, Pearl Hyde, Clifford Academy and Richard Lee primary school.

Officers are currently working closely with Pearl Hyde and the Streetwatch group around the Dorchester Way estate to try and secure safe crossings near the school. Letters are due to be drafted and sent to the local councillors as necessary.

Officers have been continuing plain clothes operations around with Warwickshire Retail park in order to reduce retail crime, this week fortunately no offences have been reported to us or witnessed by our Officers whilst on patrol.

Also as part of our ongoing targeted guardian patrols for anti-social behaviour, Officers are continuing patrols around our local green spaces, such as Caludon Castle park, Stoke Heath and areas around the River Sow along with other areas such as Riley Square, Hillmorton Road and Edgwick Park – Off road bikes are currently plaguing the streets due to the summer weather, Officers will be focusing on those who operate these vehicles in a manner that is both anti-social and dangerous. We are issuing a warning to those who persist in driving these vehicles unlawfully and endangering the public that they will face consequences when caught. Their vehicles will be confiscated and potentially destroyed, the illegal use of off-road bikes is significantly affecting our local communities, and we will not accept this behaviour.

You the community have requested Officers to Police certain roads for speeding and we have delivered on many areas such as Clifford Bridge Road, Binley Road, Brandon Road and Kynner Way, some of which has been supported by yourselves via Community Speedwatch.

However, for those of you who are not aware, we have something called Operation Snap, and we need your help

If you see anyone committing driving offences on our roads and it's captured on your dashcam, CCTV or a mobile phone by a passenger, we want you to send it in to us.

Offences may include:

  • Dangerous Driving
  • Using a mobile phone while driving
  • Not wearing a seatbelt
  • Failing to stop at a red light
  • Using a trailer in lane three of a motorway
  • Crossing solid white lines
  • Other offences where a driver is clearly not in proper control of a vehicle
  • Every piece of footage sent to Op Snap is reviewed by specially-trained staff.

If an offence is identified, the driver can be prosecuted or told to take a driver improvement course.

Officers visited the Barras Green social club to deliver a presentation on safety to a group of women, who were then also given a range of complimentary security devices and tools.

We are able to provide faraday pouches which can prevent theft of keyless cars, please send us a message or be on the lookout for our future events.

    Arrests

Officers supported Merseyside Police and trading standards for a warrant this week where a 46 year old male was arrested in suspicion of illegal money lending.

Suspected loan shark arrested during IMLT operation in Coventry - Stop Loan Sharks

Officers have also had various interviews with prisoners at Hewell Prison in Worcestershire for ongoing cases and investigations.

    Community Speedwatch

We have had successful Community Speedwatch operations so far at both Clifford Bridge Road and Kynner Way near the Warwickshire Retail Park, however we are encouraging more members of the community to join and work in partnership with Officers to suggest and attend other areas so that we can continue to make our streets safer and hopefully educate reckless drivers.

Volunteers will receive training to operate a basic speed laser. Following a risk assessment of a road, they will monitor vehicle speeds with Officers and those exceeding the limits will receive letters addressing their driving behaviour.

We are only able to have a maximum of five members of the community at one time when undertaking a Community Speedwatch Operation however we can arrange as many as possible that you may want! So please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Please feel free to send us a message via WMnow for more information regarding this.

    Kind Regards,

The Stoke & Wyken Neighbourhood Policing Team
