Dear Residents and Local Businesses, here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team, Stoke and Wyken. This Week Alongside our regular duties this week Officers have been focusing on OpSceptre (Operation Sceptre), this is an intensified week of action against knife crime and as part of this we have been paying visits to numerous shops around the Stoke & Wyken area, primarily around the Walsgrave Road and the Ball Hill area, educating them and providing information about not selling knives to those who are under the age of 18, we have also been conducting weapon sweeps in green spaces such as Stoke Heath, The Lindfield, Caludon Castle Park and parts of the River Sowe. Fortunately, we have not found anything whilst we have been out searching. How you can help reduce knife crime in your area: If you see something suspicious or know of any gang activity, get in touch today 📲 Report a crime | West Midlands Police]\ You can report anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visit https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information Talk to your child or young people about the dangers of carrying a knife. Carrying a knife for protection is not a valid reason for the police. It actually means you’re 51 per cent more likely to have it used against you. Visit 📲 https://lifeorknife.west-midlands.police.uk/ Dispose of old knives correctly. Wrap them in puncture proof plastic or cardboard. You can hand them in to your local police station, place them in a weapon surrender bin, or even pop them in your refuse bin wrapped securely and labelled ‘Caution: Sharp’. You can find your nearest weapon surrender bin here 📲 https://bit.ly/3MaQAQH Learn more about knife crime and the laws around carrying a weapon. As per our previous update, we have also been participating in OpProsperity (Operation Prosperity), this is the Police operation focused on tackling antisocial use of off-road bikes, although we have touched over this last week, with support from you our general public, and from any intelligence you are able to provide us, be it anonymous or not, we can take action such as: Increasing patrols in identified areas. Working together with community partners to try and tackle larger issues, preventative methods Seizure of said vehicles, fines and possible prosecution for those found guilty using them. Our Officers are also continuing to patrol in plain clothes around the Warwickshire Retail Park to try and prevent shoplifting, this is an ongoing issue but we are determined to be there consistently to help make the area safer for everyone, for those who are reading this from a business point of view, your CCTV footage clarity will be of utmost importance in further identifying these offenders. Green spaces are also being consistently patrolled, as above with OpSceptre this included various knife sweeps around the edge of these areas and more obscure places which may hide any bladed articles or other weapons, we have been fortunate this week that we have not come across anything in our parks within the Stoke & Wyken area. We continue our efforts with the targeted guardian patrols in order to reduce and deter anti-social behaviour, and so we have been paying close attention to areas such as Edgwick Park, Hillmorton Road, and Riley Square. Our objective is to intervene and take action against those who are found to be taking part in said behaviour. Due to it also being half term this week, we may see increased reports of anti-social behaviour increase, rest assured we will be doing our very best to patrol hotspot areas to educate and potentially arrest those who are causing problems.
