This morning the AM Town Hall Police Officers have conducted an operation aimed at tackling the ever present trend of 'aggressive begging' in our city centre. GMP along with our partners (Local businesses and Manchester City Council) have identified multiple hot spots within the city centre such as the Oxford Rd corridor, St. Annes Sq, Cross Street, Market Street, Piccadilly Gardens where the most persistent offenders seem to be located.
Today has seen some positive engagement with people that were in positions to beg but not actively asking people for money whether passively or aggressively. These people were sign posted to services that they could use to get them off the streets if they were not already engaged with said services already.
The goal is to prevent begging, aggressive or otherwise, from continuing to being a normal part of city centre culture which we all have become all too accustomed too.
Thanks, B relief NBO Team
