Shed and Garden prevention advice

                                               Shed and Garden

                                              Prevention Advice

Garden crime is an unfortunate reality. Although many people take steps to protect their homes and property inside them, they leave valuable equipment in gardens, insecure sheds and garages providing easy pickings for opportunist thieves.

Power tools, mowers, garden tools, bicycles and golf clubs are just some examples of expensive equipment left in sheds that are often not strong or secure enough, to make matters worse, these items could be used by an intruder to break into your house.

Effective garden security covers everything from the boundary fences and gates to the valuables stored inside your shed. The following simple tips can help you to “weed out” the garden thieves.

1 Keep sheds and garages always locked even when you are at home and consider fitting a security alarm.

2 Do not showcase your property, Limit the time your garage/shed doors are open and cover any windows to make it difficult for opportunists to see inside.

3 Secure items such as trimmers, lawn mowers and cycles by use of a chain and a suitable lock to a fixed anchor point and consider marking items with a UV pen, paint or an engraving. Alternatively use a DNA property or cycle marking kit.

4 Lighting, dusk till dawn, should be used to illuminate the exterior of the property.

5 protect your boundaries with defensive planting, walls, strong fences and gates, ensure you keep things locked at all times.
