Off the road: Disqualified Driver caught with Class A Drugs

ATHERTON

On Tuesday 08 July 2025 Neighbourhood Officers were conducting targeted proactive policing in and around George Street, Atherton when they sighted a vehicle previously linked to drug-related activity in the area.

The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was detained. He failed a roadside breath test. Further checks revealed he was also disqualified from driving so the vehicle was seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. Upon searching the vehicle suspected class A drugs were also found in the drivers footwell.

He was arrested and taken to Wigan Custody, where this morning he was charged with drink drive, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and possession of class A drugs. He was remanded to appear before Wigan & Leigh Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 40 months.
