Latest Scam Alert

Dear Resident,

Telegram scam group

A dodgy group on messaging app Telegram peddling a scam investment scheme attempts to get you to part with your cash.

The fraudsters running the group add in the numbers of random members and tell them they've been selected to participate in the group which sends them expert Bitcoin trading advice.

You're then given the number of a 'senior financial advisor' for you to message on Telegram.

In investment scams like these, you're typically falsely shown that you have made a profit on the investment you made, only to be asked to invest more and more money in order to withdraw your earnings.

The Financial Conduct Authority has a register which lists financial firms authorised to operate in the UK. It's best to avoid firms which aren't on this list.

If you find yourself in a scam group in Telegram, press 'report spam and leave' at the top of the group.

Admiral impersonation email

A scam email claiming to be from Admiral tells you that you have the opportunity to receive an 'car emergency kit.'

To be in with a chance of receiving this, you're given a malicious link to follow and asked to answer some questions about your 'experience with Admiral.'

This link will lead to a dodgy website designed to grab your personal and financial details.

Scam emails can be reported by forwarding them to report@phishing.gov.uk.

Suspicious websites can be reported to the National Cyber Security Centre.

If you have been a victim of a scam, then report it to Action Fraud or by calling 03001232040, alternatively by calling Humberside Police via 101.

Regards,

Brigg NPT
