Help Us Make Our Roads Safer – Join Community Speed Watch

One of the points that was regularly raised from our recent neighbourhood survey was concerns over speeding and reckless driving. We are therefore reaching out to encourage local residents to take an active role in making our neighbourhood safer by joining Community Speed Watch (CSW) – a volunteer-led initiative supported by Thames Valley Police.

Speeding continues to be one of the most common concerns raised by residents across South East Oxford. Whether it’s on residential streets, near schools, or along main routes, excessive speed not only poses a danger to pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users, but it also affects the quality of life in our community.

What is Community Speed Watch?
CSW is a scheme where trained volunteers work alongside the police to monitor vehicle speeds using approved speed detection equipment. The goal is to educate drivers, promote speed awareness, and gather data that helps us identify persistent issues and target enforcement where it’s needed most.

Why get involved?

  • Help reduce speeding and improve safety on local roads.
  • Be part of a proactive community effort.
  • Work closely with your neighbourhood policing team.
  • No prior experience needed – full training and equipment are provided.
  • Your involvement can make a real difference. Even a small commitment of time can contribute to long-term improvements in road safety and community wellbeing.

If you’re interested in joining or would like to find out more, please search for Thames Valley Community Speed Watch in your preferred search engine or use the web address below:

We appreciate your continued support and commitment to making South East Oxford a safer place to live, work, and travel.
