Radford Weekly Update

Your Weekly Radford Update

Weekly Update from your local Radford NPT

Dear Members

Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.

What’s Been Happening

Burglaries

A burglary has been reported on BULWER ROAD which happened between Friday 1st August 6:30 pm to Saturday 2nd August 10:30 am. A number of items have been stolen including a 55” smart tv, game console, air fryer and locket. Officers are carrying out enquiries in the vicinity but if you noticed any suspicious activity between the times stated please let us know.

Vehicle Crime

Two reports have been received this week. A vehicle was entered on CHEVERAL AVENUE where suspect(s) have searched the glovebox and stolen a purse and its contents. A front grille and trim have also been stolen from a Peugeot on LANCHESTER AVENUE.

Please remember to check that your vehicle is locked when you leave. Sometimes the remote might not be doing its job properly.

Distraction Theft

To be aware, an elderly victim had their gold necklace stolen by way of a “distraction theft” on BURNABY ROAD. Suspect has placed a cheap necklace in victim’s hand and then proceeded to take off the victim’s gold necklace. No force or threat was used however this is still a very upsetting incident for the victim.

When out and about, please be cautious of strangers trying to initiate physical contact, like trying to hug you, shaking your hand or trying to place jewellery on you. These are common distraction tactics. We would also advise to keep jewellery and valuables hidden when in public.

In other News

Thank you to all residents who called us concerning an elderly male looking confused and wandering up and down a road in Bablake.  Officer’s attended and reunited him with his worried family.  We often get calls like this.  If a member of your family suffers with dementia please look at the Herbert Protocol which is national safeguarding initiative used by Police across the UK to help locate vulnerable people if they go missing.

Repeat Caller

An individual has been served a Community Protection Warning following repeatedly calling 999 without a genuine emergency. In one month alone, we received approximately 70 calls. Repeat callers can often be a sign of a vulnerable person and as a neighbourhood team our first port of call is always safeguarding and getting the individual the right kind of support. Unfortunately, despite a number of agencies involvement, abuse of the 9’s has continued. As a compassionate approach to safeguarding and balancing enforcement a Community Protection Warning has been given to the individual formally requiring them to stop.  Misuse of the 9’s puts a strain on resources and could delay response to a real emergency.

Until next week

Stay safe everyone.
