Devizes School Evacuated Following Threats |
||
Officers in Devizes responded this morning (16 September) to an incident after Devizes School received a threat made over the phone. Children and staff were evacuated as a precaution while a search of the premises was carried out. A suspect was quickly identified and has been dealt with appropriately. Superintendent Paul Saunders said: "When calls of this nature are made, police rightly treat them as a legitimate concern until it can be determined that there is no credible threat or risk to life." "Hoax calls can have a significant impact on emergency services, businesses, and the public. Such mindless actions disrupt our infrastructure and result in considerable financial costs. They also cause widespread concern and fear within the local community." "If you are found to be causing the wasteful deployment of emergency services, you could face a substantial fine or even imprisonment." Wiltshire Police also received reports of a threat made to Nova Hreod School in Swindon today. The two incidents are not believed to be connected. | ||
