I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Dear Preston Residents,
We want to make you aware of recent reports of a distraction thefts at cash points on Preston Road. In these incidents the suspects have been approaching people while they are withdrawing money at the cash points and then they have used distraction techniques to steal bank cards, cash and obtain the pin numbers. Later withdrawing money or making purchases using the stolen cards.
We are seeing a trend that the victims of these thefts are usually older members of the community or those who may be seen as vulnerable.
Preston Safer Neighbourhoods are increasing patrols at surrounding the cash points as well as conducting CCTV enquires to try and identify those responsible. In the meantime we encourage you to take the following precautions:
- Best practice is to use cash points that are located inside banks or stores with cash points. - Stay alter to your surroundings and shield your pin - Avoid counting cash in public view - Report any suspicious behaviour to Police on 999 straight away
