Hadfield SNT - Tintwistle Remembrance Sunday
The Remembrance Day service in Tintwistle will be held on Sunday, November 9th, 2025.
The mornings events will take place as follows: 🔷 10:35am: Parade from Conduit Street to the War Memorial 🔷 10:50am: War Memorial Service and two minutes’ silence accompanied by the band 🔷 11: 05am: Re-enactment photograph to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the War Memorial - complete with chicken! 🔷 11: 15am: Service at Tintwistle United Reformed Church
ℹ️ This year marks a century since Tintwistle’s War Memorial was first unveiled - a lasting tribute to those from the village who gave their lives in service. Following a village meeting in December 1923, residents agreed to erect a memorial on the land at Stocks Brow, Tintwistle. It was decided that the monument would take the form of a Celtic cross, with the £320 cost raised entirely through public subscription - a remarkable community effort for its time. The War Memorial was officially unveiled in October 1925 by Joseph Howard, who was connected to Tintwistle Independent Chapel. The moment was captured in a striking black and white photograph published in the Glossop Chronicle that same month, showing a large crowd gathered to pay their respects. One hundred years on, the community will once again come together to mark this milestone on Sunday 9th November, following the annual Remembrance Service. To mark the centenary, those attending are invited to help recreate that historic photograph, echoing the original image for future generations and preserving a new piece of local history. The re-enactment photograph will appear in a forthcoming edition of the Glossop Chronicle, continuing our proud tradition of capturing the moments that matter most to the community.
The "Last Post" is a British and Commonwealth bugle call used at military funerals, and at ceremonies commemorating those who have died in war.
