Your Questions Answered: E-Scooters and E-Bikes |
||
|
Hi everyone, It's been a while. We’ve had quite a few questions lately about the rules around e-scooters and e-bikes — so we thought we’d share some quick answers!
In short: Privately owned E-scooters can only be used on private land (with the landowner’s permission). They’re not legal to ride on public roads, pavements, or cycle lanes. The old legislation hasn't kept up with technological advancements.
E-bikes (with pedals and electric assist up to 15.5 mph / 25 km/h) are legal to ride on the road and in cycle lanes, just like a normal bicycle. Note: Most throttle e-bikes are illegal.
We've been running operations with a specialist unit recently targeting the high powered off road bikes. The operation is VERY effective but also targets the e-scooters and illegal versions of the e-bikes (the ones typically with a throttle). Please don't caught out, its not worth the upset of losing £300-400.
If you’re thinking of using one, make sure it meets the legal requirements — and always ride safely and considerately. Thanks for helping keep our community safe and informed! Best regards and as usual any questions, comments, complaints or issues, come back to me. | ||
