Access Only #YOUSAIDWEDID

Hi there! 

You may have seen us in the area around York Avenue and Withy Parade recently, so I thought I’d let you know what we’ve been up to 😊!

Residents had raised concerns to us over drivers using the access only road to avoid the traffic lights on Garstang Road. This has created an increase in traffic flow, leading to congestion, damage to residents parked vehicles, near miss injuries to pedestrians and a constant flow of traffic past resident’s houses. 

Residents have also experienced unacceptable language and behaviour from drivers cutting through when educating them of the Access Only route. This will not be tolerated and drivers who are reported to behave in this way will be spoken to. 

We have been in the area conducting speed checks and stopping vehicles who are using the route as a cut through. (Special thanks to our Special Constables who volunteered their time to help us!). We even caught one vehicle going 29mph in the 20mph zone!  

The main comments we received from drivers were “I didn’t know it was access only” or “What sign?”, so be assured we have educated those drivers on the importance of paying attention to road signs! 

We are continuing to monitor the area and will be taking further action over those who repeatedly use this route to cut through. For those thinking of using York Avenue/Withy Parade, please consider the residents, and take that extra minute to wait at the lights.
