Armistice Day

Today and on Armistice Day we’ll be taking time to remember those who gave everything to make sure we all had a future.

It’s a poignant time for the force as we remember our historic colleagues who, since the 1800s, answered the call during wartime and sadly never came home.

We’ll also be thinking of those in the force who gave their lives protecting their residents at home in wartime, including SC Merrick and PC Rowlands, who were killed in 1941 as they tried to protect residents during an air raid. Pictured is a helmet one of our PCs wore during that time, proudly kept in our collection.

Thank you to all serving and ex-serving armed forces personnel – in our force and across the country – for your commitment to protecting our shared future.
