Shoplifting suspect arrested and charged

On Friday 21st November 2025 officers from Tooting Sector Safer Neighbourhood Team were conducting plain clothes patrols in the vicinity of Sainsbury’s Local on Springfield Drive SW17. 

At approximately 9.50pm a male was seen by officers to enter Sainsbury’s and select a large number of items before leaving the store, making no attempt to pay. After a brief foot chase the male was detained nearby, arrested for theft and the stolen property was recovered and returned to the store. The male was also identified and arrested on suspicion of three further thefts reported at the same location during November 2025. 

A 31-year-old male has now been charged by police for four counts of theft shoplifting and remanded in custody to appear at court on Monday 24th November 2025.
