I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A shoplifting gang has been jailed for a combined total of more than 10 years after they stole items worth more than £30,000 from shops across the country.
Simon Corcoran, Stephen Ward and Conor Ward worked as a team to target stores in 15 counties between December 2023 and October 2024.
Winchester Crown Court heard the group were abusive when challenged and would threaten staff when they exited stores without paying for items.
The court heard they mainly stole health and beauty products from shelves. The estimated loss to stores for the offences investigated was £32,863. More than 10 per cent (£4,336) of that was recovered.
Of the 29 offences, Corcoran was identified as being involved in 26, Stephen Ward was involved in 25, while Conor Ward was involved in 18. The court heard four of the offences were in Hampshire.
PC Kirstie Bough, from the Hart Neighbourhood Policing Team, led the investigation and said: "This investigation all stemmed from a single report of theft from Sainsbury's in Hook, and then further work alongside Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons intel hubs, we were able to identify the bigger picture.
"These individuals were organised in what they did, regularly changing cars to avoid being caught, cutting out lining of puffer jackets, and travelling far and wide, targeting 15 different counties from Hampshire, up to Greater Manchester."
