Speed enforcement check sites

Good afternoon,

Following community concerns regarding speeding on Watery Lane in Preston, officers carried out a speeding check site yesterday afternoon (Monday 29th April, 2024).

We stopped 13 vehicles which were exceeding the 40mph speed limit. All drivers were issued with a traffic offence report.

One vehicle was clocked driving at 56mph in the 40mph zone. The driver of that vehicle will be issued with a fixed penalty notice and three points on their licence.

We also issued a ticket to a driver for due care after they failed to see the high-visibility check site and drove into the cones. Another driver was issued with a PG9 Prohibition Notice due to a number of lighting faults on both their vehicle and its trailer. This means that the vehicle must not be driven again until the repairs have been made or the driver has to take the vehicle directly to a repair centre.

Today, we have also carried out a speed enforcement check site on Guild Way in Preston where 10 vehicles were found to be exceeding the 30mph speed limit. All were issued with traffic offence reports.

Inspector Chris Walsh from Lancashire Police’s Roads Policing Unit said: “Speeding can and does kill and seriously injure many people every year and we would urge motorists to drive within the confines of the law to ensure that we reduce this risk.

We will continue to use enforcement and education and will work with the local community to ensure our roads are safe to use for everyone”
