Weymouth man sentenced after importing a stun gun

A 36-year-old local man was sentenced at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday 19 July 2024 after he imported a stun gun into the UK.

Following information received by Border Force, officers from Weymouth Neighbourhood Policing Team attended the defendants home address on Thursday 23 November 2023.

A section 32 search was carried out and a number of weapons were seized.

He was subsequently charged and appeared in court where he was sentenced for possessing a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of a thing without the authority of the Secretary of State, as well as importing a prohibited weapon, namely a stun gun, contrary to a prohibition in force by virtue of the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979 with respect to that weapon and with intent to evade the prohibition.

The man was fined £120, ordered to pay a surcharge of £48 and £85 in court costs.

We will do all we can to take prohibited weapons off the streets and make Weymouth a safe place for residents and visitors.
