Social Media Post about Impersonating Police officers

Good Afternoon all

I have been made aware of a Facebook post sharing concerns about people impersonating police officers in the Wayfield and Weeds wood area. This was reportedly on Churchill Avenue in the early hours of the morning. Police have spoken with the original poster of this incident and also through checking policing systems can confirm it was a legitimate Policing attendance. This occurred earlier in the week prior to Kent Police's social media post about the incident in Sevenoaks, following this post releasing there has been a misunderstanding and the imaging from Churchill Avenue has been released and shared to multiple local Facebook pages. And so in relation to this incident there is no need for concern

As always however people are advised to be vigilant and if they have any doubt about the legitimacy of an attending officer then to follow the below link which contains the following text

Officer verification | Kent Police

If a member of the public requires verification of an officer's identity, or the officer wants to assure a member of the public that they are a police officer they will contact Kent Police Force Control Room(FCR) via radio. A contact handler in the FCR will complete the checks and broadcast the following message:

"This is an officer identity check broadcast from Kent Police Control Room; Officer number e.g. 12345 relayed at, location (e.g. Sutton Road, Maidstone), reference number e.g. y".

If the member of the public is still not satisfied, they will be advised to call 999 and quote the reference number.

I hope you all have a enjoyable and safe weekend
