Remember to lock your doors, even when you are in.

Don't leave Christmas presents in full view.

Check with your household Insurance to make sure you have the correct cover for extra items.

If going out for the evening, give the impression the house is occupied by leaving lights and television/radio on. Shut the curtains.

If going on holiday, redirect mail, cancel newspapers delivery and make sure your wheelie bin is taken in.

Fit a door chain or bar, and use it.

Only deal with callers by appointment

Don't keep large sums of money at home

Do not let anyone in your home until you have confirmed their identity

Genuine callers from companies will have identification and won't mind if you ask to see it

If in doubt - keep them out.
