Stop-Think-Spot when unexpected call from a well-known company reaches you

INTERNET and SOFTWARE SERVICE FRAUD

Criminals cold call claiming there is a problem with your computer network or broadband or internet account.

They tend to use the names of well-known companies such as Microsoft, SKY, Virgin Media, Three, Amazon etc. in order to sound legitimate.

They would ask you to complete a number of actions on your computer or smart phone under to demonstrate an ‘error’.

They would instruct you download an app that allows them to remotely access your digital device.

This gives them an access to everything on your digital device including your camera allowing them to copy your data ie online banking service, online shopping accounts, passwords, social media, contacts, etc.

They would entice you further by offering and even congratulating you on the offer of non-existing ‘refund’.

They would download malware onto your device to monitor what you do in the future to enable them to transfer money from your accounts or make purchases on your behalf.

They may candidly ask you to pay for their ‘helpful’ assistance they pretend to provide.

They could offer a ‘discounted’ one-off payment or an ongoing direct debit over many months and years.
