As the Christmas period approaches, here are some important reminders to help keep yourself safe while out socialising: ✅ Be Aware of Your Surroundings Even when in a group, stay alert and mindful of what’s happening around you. ✅ Protect Your Drinks Never leave your drink unattended or become distracted at the bar. If you start to feel unwell, seek assistance from venue staff or friends immediately. ✅ Use “Ask for Angela” This safety initiative is available in bars, clubs, and licensed venues across the country. If you feel unsafe, vulnerable, or threatened, discreetly ask staff for “Angela.” This code phrase signals that you need help, and trained staff will assist you. ✅ Look Out for Each Other Stay connected with friends, travel together where possible, and check in when you arrive home safely. ✅ Travel Smart Always book a cab through a licensed operator or use a cab office.Never accept lifts from strangers or unbooked minicabs (only black cabs can be hailed on the street). When your minicab arrives, ask who they are waiting for before giving your name. Many firms offer female drivers or password systems for added safety.✅ Be Assertive If approached unwantedly, respond confidently: “Don’t touch me.” “No.” “Go away.” If they persist, raise your voice: “Back away!” or “I said NO!” ✅ Plan Ahead with Alcohol Drugs and alcohol can impair judgment. Decide your limit before going out and share it with friends. ✅ Remember, have fun and stay safe. For more advice on personal safety and lone working, visit: The Suzy Lamplugh Trust website.
