Dear resident of Newham,
As we approach the festive season, we know many of you will be out shopping, celebrating, and preparing for time with loved ones. Unfortunately, this time of year also brings increased opportunities for crime. We are sharing some simple steps to help keep you safe.
Shopping Safety. • Keep bags zipped and wallets secure, especially in busy areas. • Be cautious when using your phone in public—distraction makes you a target. Record your IMEI number and make sure your device has a PIN number. • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Stay vigilant at Cashpoints, banks or post offices.
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) and Personal Safety Advice The Stratford Town Centre Team will be out on patrol during the Christmas period to tackle street crime and offences linked to the night-time economy and VAWG. Specific personal safety advice includes:
Reporting Crime In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergencies or to report a crime online, call 101 or use the Met Police website. If you are a victim or witness of a crime, free and confidential support is available via the London Victim and Witness Service.
Let’s work together to make this a joyful and safe Christmas for everyone. If you need advice or want to speak to your local policing team, we’re here to help.
