Local Priorities Road Safety Issues Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety Issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

The Kington and Weobley Safer Neighbourhood Team were out in Shobdon and Pembridge on 11/12/2025, conducting speed enforcement. Most drivers were obeying the limits, but the few that weren't were dealt with accordingly.

In the UK, the penalties for speeding include:

Minimum Penalty: A £100 fine and 3 penalty points added to your driving licence.

Disqualification: You could face disqualification from driving if you accumulate 12 or more penalty points within three years.

Higher Fines: Fines can increase based on the speed over the limit and can reach up to £1,000 (or £2,500 on motorways).

Court Appearance: If you plead not guilty, you may have to go to court, where the court has discretion over the penalties.

Speed Awareness Course: If you are a newly qualified driver and receive six points within the first two years, you may be required to attend a speed awareness course.
