OP Cirrus is a dedicated initiative aimed at reducing vehicle crime in Manchester City Centre. Your City Centre Neighbourhood Team has been working closely with car park operators and partners across the city to tackle this issue and target priority offenders — and the results speak for themselves.
✅ 7% reduction in vehicle crime compared to last year 👮♂️ Targeted hotspot patrols at peak crime times 🤝 Improved intelligence sharing between GMP officers and car park partners 🔍 Increased intelligence gathering and stop & search activity
In the last 4 weeks,
Two high-risk offenders have been successfully prosecuted and received 36-week custodial sentences.
📅 Day of Action – Friday 12 December
We held our first dedicated Day of Action with partners including MITIE, NCP, British Parking Association, CITI Park and Q-Park. Officers carried out high-visibility patrols, offered crime prevention advice, left reminder leaflets on vehicles, and completed security audits to identify ways to further reduce crime.
Our Street Engagement Team was also present, engaging with rough sleepers and making appropriate referrals.
⭐ The day resulted in excellent engagement with motorists and one arrest for bail offences.
🔜 Days of Action will now take place regularly as we continue working with partners to keep the City Centre safe.
