Festive Safety: Key Advice from Harrow Road safer neighbourhood team Dear Resident, The festive season is a wonderful time of year, but unfortunately, the increase in social activity and shopping can lead to a rise in opportunistic crime. Local police are committed to keeping our community safe and visible patrols are increasing across busy areas. Please take these simple, vital steps to protect yourselves, your homes, and your belongings. Securing Your Home Lock up: Always lock doors and windows, even if you're briefly out or at home. Look occupied: Use light timers to deter burglars when the house is empty. Hide valuables: Keep gifts and expensive items out of view from windows. Secure deliveries: Use secure drop-off points or neighbours for parcels.
Staying Safe Out & About Protect belongings: Keep bags zipped and secure in crowded areas; don't flash expensive items. Stay alert: Stick to well-lit areas, stay with friends, and drink responsibly.
Drinking and Celebrations Drink responsibly: Never leave your drink unattended, know your limits, and ensure you can get home safely. Don't let alcohol consumption lower your awareness of your surroundings or make you vulnerable. Firework safety: If celebrating with fireworks, always follow the Firework Code. Never drink alcohol when handling fireworks. Ensure fireworks are used in open spaces, away from buildings and vehicles, and only by responsible adults.
Reporting Your vigilance is key. If something doesn't feel right, report it immediately. Emergency (crime in progress): Call 999. Non-emergency/online reporting: Call 101 Stay safe, be vigilant, and enjoy a secure festive season.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year, Harrow Road Safer Neighbourhood team
